Biography

Born in Ethiopia, Zed Wondemu has combined her remarkable drive with a desire to promote the love of her culture through sharing good food and hospitality to become one of the DC area’s most successful foreign-born women restaurateurs.

As an active member of her community, Zed serves on the Board of Directors for the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington, National Restaurant Association, National Restaurant Association Education Foundation, Georgetown Business and Professional Association.  She is a resource person for the Montgomery Country Public schools, and acts as a financial consultant for small businesses.

Among her other speaking engagements, Ms. Wondemu has appeared on WDCU-FM’s Cross Talk with Ernest White in 1992.  She also served as a panelist at a conference on Hospitality and Tourism for the Washington D.C Convention and Visitors Association Guidance Counselor Conference in 1994.

In 1969, Zed came to the United States to further her education.  She is married and has two children.

Ms.  Wondemu is President of Zed’s, Incorporated, which includes:

• Zed’s opened in Georgetown in 1988.  Owner/Manager Zed presides over a restaurant that has become an area favorite, winning critical acclaim from the Washingtonian as “one of Washington’s 100 very best restaurants” several years running.

• Zed is also owned/managed a number of gift and lobby shops in various locations in and around Washington, D.C.

• Owner and Manager of Zed’ Properties.
